Thanksgiving In The Psalms, A Notable Contrast

Psalm 14

The Fool Says, There Is No God

To the choirmaster of David

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; There is none who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.

They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good not even one.

They have no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat up bread and do not call upon the Lord?

There they are in great terror for God is with the generation of the righteous. You would shame the plans of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge.

Oh that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of His people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

What About Evildoers?

Oh, this is the sort of Psalm we sometimes prefer to skip over because it makes us uncomfortable, yet it so fits what is happening is the world more intensely every day. Culture. media, and politics is flooded with bread and circuses, kangaroo courts, human trafficking being seriously ignored and covered up and social media cracking down and censoring truth speakers and those who attempt to expose evil.

What has happened to truth and justice? The opposite of Shalom (God's peace) is chaos and confusion. The enemy's cause is to steal, kill and destroy and he has starry eyed followers, many of whom are unaware of the danger and who it is they are following. But there is nothing new under the sun concerning the flourishing of evil.

BUT GOD, is the author of truth and of love and of justice. He knows the hearts of the wicked as well as the good. The evildoers cannot hide from Him and as much as they claim their unbelief, they know deep down inside that they are on the losing side. Folks, GOD WINS! And that is something to be thankful for.

Psalm 98

Make A Joyful noise To The Lord

A Psalm

Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things! His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for Him. The Lord has made known his salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered His steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and with the sound of melody! With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!

Let the sea roar and all that fills it; the world and all those who dwell in it! Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together before the Lord, for He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

Praise And Thanksgiving

Praise and thanksgiving to Yahweh are our greatest weapon against the schemes of evildoers. The contrast is a reminder to put everything in perspective as the world seems to be falling apart before our eyes.

Yeshua humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on the cross.

Therefore God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the Name above ALL other Names, that at the Name of Yeshua, every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father! ~Philippians 2:8-11

I pray that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being. ~Ephesians 3:16

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. ~Ephesians 6:10
